17 Year Old Teen Became The First American To Win Global Qur’an Recitation Competition

The Dubai International Holy Qur’an Award’s Qur’an recitation contest saw a new winner this year, that too from US, making him the first American to win this global Qur’an recitation contest.

The 17 year old teen Ahmed Burhan Mohammed who hails from Minnesota, USA bagged the top position by beating more than 100 contestants from different countries of the world. Ahmed has become a bit of celebrity after this feather in his cap.

Ahmed is an American citizen of Somali descent and lives in Minneapolis, home to the largest Somali population in US.

The President of Somalia has expressed a desire to meet Ahmed after he won the prestigious award, which is one of the biggest of its kind in the world.

Ahmed received a proper score for proper recitation, for his voice and style. He recited random verses from his memory. Ahmed won a cash prize of $68,000 and a trophy. He is also preparing to participate and win in other similar competitions.

Ahmed got his training from a local Islamic school and dedicates his success to his parent and teachers. We wish him a very best of luck. May Allah grant him success in his future endeavour.
