The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria ( NAHCON) , has allocated 230 slots to the 104 serving senators .

NAHCON in a letter written to the Senate through it’s Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa (PDP Bauchi North), said the Senators should utilise the allocation on or before March 6, 2023 by remitting N2.5million for each of the slots.

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who read the letter signed by Sheikh Suleiman Momoh, the NAHCON Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services, emphasised that the slots were not free to the Senators.

He added that NAHCON has assigned an officer for payment of the Hajj fares by Senators through electronic transaction.

The slots as authoritatively gathered, are given to the serving senators as a way of helping their constituents who are  yearning for such opportunity due to limited slots given Nigeria by authorities in charge, in Saudi Arabia.

Serving senators are ordinarily supposed to be 109 in number but have been reduced to 104 due to other political appointments taken by some of them and litigation being faced by two others.
