27 travel agencies licenses cancelled in 2019

The Bangladesh civil aviation and tourism ministry has cancelled licences of 27 travel agencies on charge of their alleged involvement with different types of corruption and irregularities in the past year.

Of the 27, the ministry cancelled 16 licences flowing recommendations of the religious affairs ministry as the agencies were involved in irregulars over Hajj pilgrimage, according to a list submitted to the parliamentary standing committee on ministry of civil aviation and tourism.

 

Licences of eight travel agencies were cancelled for their alleged involvement in forged booking and cancellation of air tickets, the list showed.

 

Licences of the rest five agencies were cancelled following RAB findings of realising extra fees form Hajj pilgrims, it added.

The 16 travel agencies involved with hajj irregularities are—Habib Air Travels and Tours, Kazi Travels and Tours, M/s Sara Air International, Al Muzdalifa Aviation, Mamun Travels Limited, Al Safa Air Travels, K Alam Travels and Tours, Triton Oversees Ltd, Siam Oversees, Subha International, Al Harmain Travels, Saudi Bangla Air Services Ltd, Al Fine Tours and Travels, Mahir Hajj Services and Tours, Ababil Travels and Tours, and Super Khidmah Travels and Tours.

 

The eight travel agencies involved with forged booking are— Chowdhury International, Motherland Tours and Travels, Sams Air Tours and Travels, Muna Travels and Tours, Travel Centre, Biplob International Travel Agency, Urmi Travel Agency, and Darul Emon International Travels and Tours.

 

The five agencies involved with realising extra fees are— Hasem Air International, Golden Bengal Tours and Travels, Al Gazi Travels Ltd, Challenger Travels, and Tours Ltd and Sunshine Express Travel Incorporation.

 

The house watchdog’s meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangad Bhaban with its chairman RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury in the chair while its state minister for civil aviation and tourism Mosharraf Hossain, committee members Mahbub Ali, Tanveer Imam, and Sayeda Rubina Akter were present.
