PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has received kudos for nominating Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan as chairman of the National Hajj Commission (NAHCON).

Buhari transmitted a letter to the Senate requesting the confirmation of Hassan as NAHCON chairman, and others.

Islamic chiefs said Hassan, who was chairman/Amir Hajj of Osun Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board between 2010 and 2018, was perfect man for the job.

Ex-Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs Dr. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef described Hassan’s nomination as “a round peg in a round hole.”

National Amir (president) of The Companion, an association of Muslims in Business and Professions, Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike, said Hassan was qualified for the job.

Sonaike said he had the experience of being ex-leader of Islamic organisations, such as Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Nasrullah Al Fathi Society, (NASFAT) among others.

The Muslim Congress (TMC) Amir Dr Luqman AbdurRaheem described Hassan’s nomination as a welcome development.

“We have no doubt that he is the man for the job. We pray to Allah to make the task easy for him and grants him the wisdom and courage to lead this important body,” he said.

Executive Chairman of Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) Nigeria Disu Kamor said  “Hassan is indeed a tested hand from his student days…

Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation Executive Director Dr Abdullah Shuaib said: “This is pleasant news …May Allah guide his (Hassan’s) steps aright; strengthen him with sound health and excellent helpers to deliver the deliverables.”

NAHCON Acting Chairman Abdullahi Mukhtar Muhammad congratulated Hassan and the nominated board members.

In a statement by NAHCON Head of Public Affairs Fatima Sanda Usara, Muhammad urged all heads to prepare their handover notes and prepare for a smooth transition from the present board to the fourth NAHCON board.
