Cameroon: Increase in exchange rates, hike in hajj transportation by Saudi Jerks up 2019 Hajj fare – Minister Paul Atanga

by admin

The Minister of territorial Administration Paul Atanga has disclosed that the 315000 cfa franc increase in the cost of the 2019 holy pilgrimage to Mecca has been fixed by the Saudi Arabian authorities and not the Government.

He made the announcement during a press conference held Monday May 6, organized by the hajj committee in Yaounde.

Minister Paul Atanga Nji said the increase is as a result of an increase in the cost of inter-urban transportation, and an increase as well in the cost of special visa requirements.

“Saudi Arabia are the people communicating the different prices which have to be applied. We did not know that the dollar will go from 590 to 630. We did not know that there will be an increase in the fees of transportation. Our duty now is to carry the plea of the Muslim leaders to the powers that be, expecting that something can be done.” Atanga Nji said

Last Thursday May 02, some Cameroonian Islamic Associations denounced in a declaration the over 300,000 franc increase in the hajj expenses for this year, and urged the National Hajj Commission to look for a way out.
