The forum of states Muslim Pilgrims welfare Boards Chief Executive Officers has appointed the Executive Secretary of Nasarawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board,  Alh Idris Ahmed Al Makura as its new Chairman effectively removing its former Chairman, Alh Nasiru Danmallam, the Director of FCT Muslim Pilgrims Board.

The forum also appointed the Executive Secretary of Kano State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alh Muhammed Abba Danbatta as the Vice Chairman of the forum replacing the former vice Chairman Alh Al Makura who is now the Chairman of the forum.

A document announcing the change of leadership has already been sent to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) via a letter dated 7th of March 2022 and signed by the Secretary of the forum, Barr Auwal Abdullahi, the Executive Secretary of Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The change in the leadership of the forum might not be unconnected with the controversy over NAHCON’s directive urging States Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards to migrate pilgrims deposit to the HAJJ SAVING SCHEME being operated by Jaiz Bank.

HAJJ REPORTERS exclusively gathered that most of the state Executives were against the directive by NAHCON and the forum immediately constituted a committee under the leadership of the FCT pilgrims Boss to meet with NAHCON Chairman, Alh Zikrullah Kunle Hassan and find a common ground over the directive.

However, the Director of FCT pilgrim’s board who is the Chairman of the committee tasked with leading the efforts to find a common ground was said to have accepted the directive and immediately directed intending pilgrims that paid under the FCT to comply.

It was leant that most States executive officers expressed their disappointment over his decision and saw his action as a “betrayal” and therefore called for his removal.

HAJJ REPORTERS equally gathered that although most states have now accepted the directive and are complying after the committee met with the chairman of NAHCON, they nevertheless decided to affect a change of leadership of their forum.
