Lion Air issued an apology to Indonesian umrah pilgrims who were affected by the delay in flight JT-087 from King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Indonesia.

“Lion Air really understands that this delay can affect the travel schedules and plans of the pilgrims. At present, Lion Air is still working and handling the issue,” Lion Air Group corporate communications strategic Danang Mandala said in an official statement on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Danang explained that the flight delay was caused by the aircraft serving the route, Airbus 330-900NEO with a registration PK-LEF, which needed to undergo a re-inspection given indications that a technician must work on one of the components and bring in spare ones.

“The spare parts are imported from other locations, requiring substantial time for the delivery process and preparation before they can be used for replacement,” said Danang.

Previous reports suggested Lion Air postponed its scheduled international flight code JT-087 from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia. The plane carrying 345 Umrah pilgrims was initially slated to fly at 03:30 local time (GMT+ 03), Sunday, February 19, 2023.
