Former Kaduna council aide in prison for Hajj fraud not our staff – Kaduna Muslim Pilgrims’ Board

Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has said that Hassan Dauda who was alleged to have defrauded pilgrims and subsequently jailed for 12 years is not a staff of the board.

The Director of Operations of the board, Alh Abubakar Alhassan made the clarification in a statement on Monday saying Mr Dauda was not a staff of Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board at the time he committed the fraud in 2013.

Abubakar said the clarification becomes necessary in view of media reports in circulation portraying the fraudster to be a staff of Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

“Kaduna State Muslim pilgrims board wishes to clarifies the following: 1) The said Hassan Dauda was A special Assistant on Religious Affairs to Giwa Local Government Chairman as at the time he committed the fraud and not a staff of the board”.

He said “The fraud was committed within Giwa local government and therefore the board has nothing to do with the issue”.

The statement further stated that Kaduna has been rated as one of the most organised and revered State Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board in the country due to the honesty and commitment of its staff, a record the board said, it will strive hard to uphold.

It will be recalled that ” A former Special Assistant to the Chairman of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hassan Dauda was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for his involvement in a N6.3 million Hajj fraud.

Media reports quoting a statement from ICPC stated that “Dauda was charged before the Kaduna State High Court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).”
