JUST IN: AHUON elects new executives for Northern zone

The Kano zone of the Association of Hajj and Umrah Operators in Nigeria (AHUON) has elected new zonal executive members who will steer the affairs of the association in the next three years.

Hajj Reporters reports that the election was conducted at the zonal headquarters of the association in Kano state on Thursday.

Alhaji Haruna Isma’il, emerged as the new Zonal Vice President to lead the remaining six executives to run the association for the next three years.

Speaking immediately after the exercise, the Publicity Secretary of the association, Muhammad Hadi Salisu, described the election as democratic.

According to him, the positions were made available for every interested member to contest for some months ago, adding that reminders were also sent ahead of the exercise.

Mr Salisu explained that almost all the seven positions, except the position of zonal Vice President, were unopposed, adding that the other contestant was disqualified because he could not meet the constitutional requirements to join the race.

He commended the officials of the association for conducting what he described as a successful exercise.

In his remarks, the National President of AHUON, Nasidi Yahya Suleman, expressed happiness about the success of the election.

He advised the new executives to understand the fact that there is a big task ahead, adding that the leadership should carry everybody along.

“So far a member is registered and paid his dues, he must be carried along. Today is one of the most successful days of my tenure as National President.

“The exercise was conducted peacefully. I implore you to live up to expectations,” he said.

In his inaugural speech, the newly elected Zonal Vice President promised to carry everybody along for the success of the association.

He also pledged to engage in wide consultation before making a decision, promising that all funds meant for the association would be accounted for and utilized judiciously.

According to Mr Isma’il, as the zonal VP, he would do his best to restore what he described as the “lost glory of the zone”, promising to deliver very strong leadership for the development of the association.

“On behalf of the executive members, we appreciate everybody that contributed to the success of this election. I promise you that we will not let you down. We will do our best to perform optimally,” he said.

Hajj Reporters reports that other executive members include, Umar Bayero A.( Assistant Vice President), Nasiru M. Chamo (Secretary), Muhammad Hadi Salisu ( Publicity Secretary) and Aminu Bala Bayero ( Financial Secretary).

Others include; Farouk Aliyu(Assistant Secretary) and Yusuf Muhammad Umar (Welfare Officer).
