Jakarta – The Religious Affairs Ministry’s branch office in the Aceh province announced on Tuesday that 4,187 Aceh residents that have registered for the hajj pilgrimage this year will be rescheduled for next year as this year’s trip has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This decision was made as a direct consequence of the force major hindering this year’s schedule,” said Samhudi, Head of the Aceh Religious Ministry’s hajj and umrah on Tuesday evening.

Samhudi said that the cancelation will see this year’s deposits be kept and managed separately by the hajj financial management agency (BPKH). According to him, 4,187 hajj pilgrims out of 4,378 have paid off their deposits.

He also assured that the pilgrims will receive benefits from the BPKH at least 30-days prior to the 2021 hajj pilgrimage season. According to Samhudi, the government has made the best decision considering the current global circumstances that have been crippled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hajj pilgrimage program in the province has a waiting list up to 28 years due to the limited quota provided by the Saudi Arabian government.
