Press Release

The Niger State Governor, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Sani Bello, has been commended for his relentless efforts in comforting pilgrims from the state.

The Executive Secretary of the state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Umar Makun Lapai, made the commendation while addressing newsmen at the Conference Hall of the National Mosque, Abuja.

Makun Lapai spoke on the sidelines of the 2022 annual Hajj Lecture/Award ceremony organised by the Independent Hajj Reporters (IHR).

The executive secretary explained that no success can be recorded by any parastatal without the full support of government.

Niger State received the overall award of “The Best Disciplined Pilgrims” in 2022 Hajj onshore and offshore in Nigeria.

Alhaji Makun Lapai also thanked Almighty Allah for making Niger State to be the only state in the federation that had successful and complete airlift of all its pilgrims despite the challenges.

The IHR is an independent civil society organisation that monitors and reports on Hajj and Umrah activities in Nigeria,  Saudi Arabia and elsewhere across the globe with a view to simplifying operations and improving service delivery.

The organisation supervises all Hajj and Umrah arrangements starting from the Hajj fare collection, airlifting, accommodation for pilgrims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and return transportation.

It also monitors feeding, security and other logistics needs of pilgrims. IHR organises and appreciates hard work and efficiency to deserving service providers, including States.

It could be recalled that this is the 4th year consecutively that Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board merited various awards. The first was in the year 2017 when it received an award of Excellence, then in 2018, 2019 the State was assessed as the Best in terms of Pilgrims Welfare.
