The hajj committee of India has today issued a circular cancelling its tradition of paying 2100 Saudi Riyals to selected pilgrims to cushion their day-to-day expenses during the hajj in Saudi Arabia.
A circular dated 22nd of February and signed by Executive Officer Srinagar on behalf of the hajj Committee of India reads ‘Whereas previous hajj committee used to provide 2100 Saudi Riyals to India Hajj pilgrims on account of incurring day to day expenditure in Saudi Arabia, and, whereas hajj committee vide communication dated 21st of February has dispensed with the such practice for 2023 hajj and as such, no foreign exchange shall be provided to selected pilgrims by the Hajj committee.
The memo further urges 2023 intending pilgrims from India to source for foreign exchange in Saudi Riyal before departing to Saudi Arabia hajj.
