The Stone of Ismail .. The History Pendant around the Kaaba

by admin

The “Ismail’s Stone” is a curved pendant around the Kaaba, and the short-height stone is a semi-circle separated from the northern part of the “Kaaba”, and associated with it throughout its history.

There are many historical narratives regarding it, although there is almost a consensus between scholars and researchers that it is an inseparable part of the Kaaba.
There are many historical sources, along with the site’s names (Hajar Ismail), but the most famous are five names: the first of which is “stone”, and this was named because it is from the honorable Kaaba, as it is the stone of the Kaaba with which it spills “gutter,” which is the part fixed on the surface of the Kaaba on the northern side to drain the accumulated water On its surface to stone when it rains, or wash the surface.
The second name is “Walls”, as it was narrated from the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, that a man said to him, “I saw the shattered.” He said “No Hateem. The people of the pre-Islamic era call it the shattered, but it is the walls.” And the third is “the stone of Ismael”. Historically, “Abraham” made him a “stone”, that is, a bosom for Ismail to house to, and above it made a feather from the Arak tree that is famous for the valleys of Mecca.

The fourth is “Ismail’s pit,” and the origin of the name’s fame is that the pit was before the founding and building of the foundations of the Kaaba.
As for the fifth of them, it is the famous “Al-Hateem” at the Hanafis, which is the place that is affiliated with the gutter of the Kaaba. It was named by this name due to its separation from the Kaaba and its destruction, and it was said that people raise their voices by believing in this location.

The historians mentioned that the caliphs continued the reforms of the “Stone of Ismail” until it became in its current form, and during the era of the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mahdi wanted to restore the stone to the Kaaba, so Imam Malik forbade it so that the Kaaba and the Stone of Ismail did not become a site for opinions, construction and demolition.

The current shape of the Kaaba and the exodus of Ismail’s stone is the form that the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, saw and walked around with.
