The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has urged the Kwara Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to establish a well equipped lCT centre to enable it digitalise all Hajj operations in conformity with international best practices.

Alhaji Halidu Shitu, the Deputy Director, States and Zones, of NAHCON, gave the advice on Monday when he led a team from the commission for an inspection of facilities at the board in llorin.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commission was in Kwara to inspect the facilities in place before the issuance of Hajj licence to the board.

Shitu, who described the board as a major stakeholder in Hajj exercise, emphasised the urgent need for the board to possess a well equipped lCT centre.

He said the inspection visit was aimed at ensuring modern facilities were put in place in preparation for this year’s holy pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

The team leader said the Act establishing NAHCON gave it power to licence, regulate, supervise and perform oversight functions over agencies and organisations involved in movement of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj and Umrah.

Shitu said the commission would issue regulations and supervise the activities of the board after the issuance of licence of operations.

The Executive Secretary of the board, Malam AbdulGaniyu Ahmed, thanked the commission for the inspection visit.

Ahmed expressed gratitude to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the provision of facilities at the board which, he said, had improved the performance of the board in organising credible Hajj operations.

Among the entourage of the NAHCON team were Alhaji Habeeblahi Bello, Hajiya Halimah Bawa, Mr Fijabi lbrahim and Hajia Risikat Alanamu.
